Mom Strong Interview: Kate Jwaskiewicz, Owner, Momleta Syracuse, NY
Find out why a busy New York mom made a career change and now owns a fitness franchise. Get to know Kate Jwaskiewicz, busy mom and owner of MOMLETA Syracuse, NY.
Q: What city/state do you live in and how long have you lived there?
A: Syracuse, NY for the last 19 years!
Q: How many children do you have and what are their ages?
A: Four! Georgia -13; Ruby - 11; Bernadette - 6; Miles - 3
Q: How long have you been a MOMLETA franchise owner?
A: Since December 2016 - so almost FOUR years!
Q: How did you find out about MOMLETA?
A: My friend Nichole asked me to come to a class with her when Bernadette was about a year-old. I became an instructor 4 months later!
Q: Why did you become an owner?
A: I didn’t want to see the community go when our former owner moved on in her fitness and business journey. I was in a position to make a career change and also a change in my motherhood journey. It was a leap in the business sense but aligned perfectly with my fitness goals and my desire to be home with my babies.
Q: What are the top three things you love about being a MOMLETA franchise owner?
A: I absolutely love and appreciate the flexibility of running a business where my children are a priority to the company. I also could not imagine being surrounded by a more supportive community of women in the same stage as me in life. Finally, being immersed in the field of fitness and nutrition has been so beneficial to my own well-being.
Q: What would you be doing if you were not a MOMLETA franchise owner?
A: I would be running employee wellness programming for corporations and teaching fitness classes.
Q: Prior to becoming a fitness professional, what did you do?
A: I was a fundraising professional and health coach.
Q: What did your family & work life look like before March 2020?
A: Life was chaotic, hectic, on the go...every day. It feels like we were never home and my husband and I were ships passing in the night. I was actually less physically active because I was so tired.
Q: What does your family & work life look like now?
A: We're HOME! I am working more on my business and moving my body more as my only alone time - running, taking virtual classes, etc. My kids are more relaxed, however, I know they miss activity and socialization so that has been difficult to navigate.
Q: What three things do you miss most?
A: I miss dates nights with my husband, seeing my parents and vacations.
Q: What three things do you not miss?
A: I do NOT miss driving kids to 1,000 activities a week, driving long distances to teach classes and the bill that came with eating out a LOT.
Q: If you had $10K and two weeks to travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and who would you go with?
A: I do love vacations with my entire family - grandparents, brothers and sisters and their families, however, ideally I'd love to go somewhere tropical with my husband. All-inclusive. Bring me drinks and let me sleep and read in a hammock. The most amazing vacation I ever took was to Antigua. Long walks, lots of sleep, delicious food.
